People Seek Formal Recognition

When most candidates indicate motivations like skills development and self-development, it’s a strong signal that RPL is not just a compliance exercise it’s closely tied to professional identity and growth.
In an RPL context, these answers usually mean: “I’m already doing the work, and I want the confidence, language, and recognition that comes with a qualification that reflects my capability.”
For employers, this is relevant because it shows RPL can complement development initiatives: it helps people consolidate learning into recognition, and it supports engagement by validating real competence.
For employees, it reframes RPL as a positive step forward not “going back to study”, but documenting and being recognised for leadership practice that already exists.
